Palm Jumeirah, United Arab Emirates

Palm Jumeirah is the first and so far the only fully completed artificial Palm Island. It was erected off the coast of Dubai in the form of a sprawling date palm with 16 symmetrical branches, surrounded by a crescent. The idea to build islands in the Persian Gulf came to the sheikh at the end of the last century, the main goal was to attract tourists, investments and wealthy residents. The Dubai government supported the plan, construction began in 2001, and by the year 200, Palma really became one of the places of attraction for travelers from all over the world. Of course, far from budget.

Palm Jumeirah is the first and smallest island of the project (“only” 5 by 5 km), in addition to it, the complex includes the unfinished Palm Deira and Palm Jabal Ali. See andyeducation.com for education and training in United Arab Emirates.

How to get to Palm Jumeirah

Getting to Palm Jumeirah is convenient from Dubai by metro and monorail. First you need to get to the Nakheel station (the ticket costs from 4 to 8.50 AED, depending on where the passenger is coming from), and then transfer to the monorail that runs along the entire “trunk” of the palm tree. The fare also depends on the distance: one way between the end stations – 20 AED, between any other – 10 AED, round trip – 30 and 15 AED, respectively. The prices on the page are for September 2021.

A taxi ride will cost 10 AED and more.

Hotels

Most of the Palm Jumeirah hotels are luxury 4* and 5* complexes. In terms of prices, it is generally more profitable to rent small apartments or rooms at the entrance to the island, the minimum price for a double room or apartment is 250 AED per night. For accommodation in four- and five-star hotels, you will have to pay from 400 AED and from 550 AED, respectively. The most picturesque views are opened from the windows of the hotels located on the “crescent”, where the most expensive complex is located – Atlantis The Palm 5 *. On the “leaves” they rent luxurious villas costing from 5000 AED per day.

When choosing a hotel and a holiday season, one should keep in mind the consequences of one conceptual miscalculation of the creators of the first “palm tree”: at the height of summer, the water between its “leaves” stagnates and jellyfish appear in it.

Shopping on Palm Jumeirah

There are not many shopping centers on the island, the best of them are The Point, Nakheel Mall and The Avenues. There are also boutiques, specialty and souvenir shops. In addition, you can go shopping “on the mainland”, since the distances are small. The most popular places to shop are the hefty Jumeirah Town Center and Mercado.

What to watch

Palm Jumeirah is divided into “trunk”, “crown” and “crescent”. The “trunk” is the central part, connected to the mainland by a 300 m long bridge; hotels, clubs, restaurants and shops are built on it. “Krona” is 16 palm branches, along each stretches a road and private villas stand in two rows.

Locals say that the houses were completely sold out even before the development began, as a result they sold more than they should have, and the distances between the villas were almost halved. A kind of “sealing building” in the Emirati.

Functionally decorated with Arabic script and quotes from the sheikh, the “crescent moon” serves as a huge breakwater that protects the island from waves and storms and is connected to it by an underwater tunnel. Hotels, restaurants and entertainment centers have also been built on it.

The most famous building in Palm Jumeirah is the Atlantis The Palm 5 * hotel, located in the center of the “crescent” above the very top of the “palm tree”, next to the monorail terminal station. Most of all, it looks like a fabulous oriental palace of two buildings, between which a massive bridge is thrown, which at the same time is a huge arch in oriental style. On its territory there is a water park, a dolphinarium and an aquarium.
